Young people in Droitwich urged to apply to become a police cadet

Droitwich Editorial 21st Feb, 2017   0

YOUNG people across Droitwich who want an insight into life in the police service are being urged to apply for this year’s intake of cadets.

Participants in the scheme will be able to find out if a career in the police is for them.

Cadets learn an array of personal skills such as teamwork, leadership, drill and fitness, as well as awareness of the roles and departments within the police. They also support the police at community events.

Applicants have to be in year 11 and the deadline for the 2017 applications is March 10.

During the two-year voluntary programme, cadets will complete a personal professional portfolio to assist with any future university or employment application.

Det Insp Justin Taylor said: “Being a cadet gives young people valuable experience in social skills and gives an exciting insight into life in the police service.

“They have the chance to make new friendships and contribute to their local communities, as well as improving their job prospects.”

Cadets also provide valuable peer support to younger students.

The role includes attending weekly meetings, a summer activity week and committing to 15 hours of voluntary work each quarter.
