THE ORGANISERS of this year’s Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival have revealed the event will be officially opened and headlined by top TV chef Brian Turner CBE.

Brian will be joined by MP Nigel Huddleston at the launch of the event, which is on June 17 and will be held in the town’s Lido Park because of the work being carried out on the High Street. Brian will then meet and greet festival visitors before showcasing his culinary skills in the demonstration kitchen, along with other chefs.

The festival has become one of the main events in the town during the summer and is fast building a reputation as one of the leading foodie festivals in the Midlands. First held in 2013 it boasts 130 exhibitors and attracts some 18,000 visitors.

Organiser Patrick Davis said: “We are thrilled to have secured Brian Turner to join us for the day.”

Brian is the President of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts which he has combined with an impressive TV career.

He was on the first ever episode of Ready Steady Cook and featured on the successful show for 14 years as well as on This Morning, Saturday Kitchen and, more recently, his own BBC show ‘A Taste of Britain’.

In 2015 he recorded a new show – also with the BBC – ‘My Life on a Plate’.

This year’s event will be completely free to attend and will place a strong emphasis on local food and drink.

There will be around 100 exhibitors offering a wide range of produce, the demonstration kitchen, live entertainment throughout the day and a ‘Kids Zone’ offering a multitude of free activities for children.

The Droitwich Spa Food & Drink Festival is run by a committee of volunteer representatives and is supported by Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Town Council and local businesses.
