Worcestershire home treatment teams to help those suffering episodes of acute mental illness

COUNTY health staff who provide mental health care in people’s homes have been accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Home Treatment Teams, employed by the Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, provide intensive treatment and support for people during an episode of acute illness as an alternative to a hospital admission.

The teams respond to acute mental health problems and they can also help ensure an early discharge from hospital by providing care for people at home.

There are four of these teams in Worcestershire, two based in the North and two in the South.

Ratings are based on questionnaires from patients and their carers and a peer review where the teams are visited by members of other teams from around the country and service users and carers.

Fran Tummey, Adult Mental Health lead for Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust said: “These recent accreditation scores demonstrate our commitment to providing high quality care, when appropriate, in a patients home where they feel more at ease and comfortable.

“Evidence shows us that care at home can improve recovery and we endeavour to continue delivering services which support this ethos,” she added.
