THE CAMPAIGN to revamp the tennis courts at Droitwich Lido Park has received a boost after Wychavon District Council announced it would be providing another £10,000 worth of funding.
The pledge comes after the initial agreement to match-fund £20,000, once it has been collected by the Let’s Play Tennis fund-raisers.
Lynn Stevens, Wychavon’s senior parks officer, said: “The Lido Park tennis courts are free and accessible to everyone and we want to keep them this way.
“We’re very pleased to be able to top up the funding towards the tennis courts which will brings the refurbishment one step closer to being a reality.
“The Let’s Play Tennis campaign has made great strides in their work, but we wanted to give them an extra helping hand on the way to achieving their funding goal of £40,000 with us making up £30,000 of the total now.”
The announcement ties in nicely with the campaigners latest fund-raising drive entitled ‘Leave a Lido Legacy’ where people are asked to sponsor a small square of the court in return for a donation.
Elaine Ball, fund-raiser for the project said: “We’re thrilled with this additional funding which gets us so much closer to our final goal.
“We still have a lot of money to raise though, so we are once again calling on the community as well as local businesses to get behind this and get involved with the Leave A Lido Legacy campaign and give what they can to this project.”
