A DROITWICH school has received a grant of £10k to create a ‘Friendship Garden’ to support people living in a rurally isolated area.

The project at Himbleton Church of England First School is one of 130 across the country to benefit from a share of £3million from the Big Lottery Fund.

The ‘Himbleton Friendship Garden’ will be built on a section of school land which is currently overgrown and will include a water feature and seating, as well as plants and sensory objects.

The space will be opened up for community use with the aim of supporting people and focusing on their mental health needs.

Chris Burdett, chair of Friends of Himbleton School, said: “The school will benefit in creating an appealing outside area that can be used by pupils and staff for spiritual reflection.

“It will bring together all the outside areas to ensure effective continuous provision for all whilst focusing on the mental health needs of the school community.

“The school is also in a very small village community with no access to parks and limited transport links and the Friends feel it is so important to offer something back.”
