New weekly dance sessions in Droitwich for the over 55s

Droitwich Editorial 23rd Apr, 2017   0

A WEEKLY dance class for both men and women aged 55 and over is returning to Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre on Thursday (April 27).

Sessions run from midday to 1pm and admission is £4 per person to take part.

The classes are taught by a range of Dancefest’s experienced dance teachers who thrive to encourage people to dance, regardless of age, ability or experience.

It is a very relaxed glass where dancers can stop and catch their breath when needed.

All the exercises can be adapted to different levels and can be done seated if required and there is a variety of music to appeal to everyone.

Last term the team was lead by Clare Wood.

She said: “The class is open to anyone age 55 and over and to all abilities.

“All the exercises can be adapted to different levels and can be done seated if needed.

“There’s a lovely atmosphere and the sessions are based around fun and fitness, improving strength and flexibility rather than worrying about getting things right all the time.

“Its a very relaxed class class where dancers can stop and catch their breath wherever they need to.

“I plan the class with a variety of upbeat exercises mixed with softer, calmer pieces, each working on different strengths or parts of the body, and to help increase balance.”

She added lots of different styles of music were used to ensure there was something for everyone.

Siobhan Cole, who trained in dance at the University of Chichester, will be leading the sessions this term.

She has a wealth of experience of leading dance with all ages and added she was looking forward to taking the ‘Chance to Dance’ sessions.

“I met the group last month and they’re such a lovely bunch, open to trying all kinds of dance styles. I can’t wait for the first class.”

Graham Sugden, 70, who has been been taking part in the classes for six months, said: “The easy rhythm of the dance themed exercise routines suits me perfectly as I am not very physically active in my everyday life.

“Because I feel better, the classes have given me something to concentrate on, given the improvement I can see in my general level of fitness.

“I have found an exercise class that suits my own personal level.

“Clare, our class guide, varies the programme of exercise dance routines each week to keep the programme fresh for everyone in the class.

“At the moment I am the only man amongst fifteen lovely ladies and we all look forward to the next class and Clare’s happy smiling face.”
