BOSSES at Droitwich Cricket Club have hit out at vandals who caused damage to a screen and equipment.
The perpetrators pulled panels off a side screen and, after getting into a compound, broke a catching cradle, a piece of practice equipment, that was stored there.
The club’s chairman James Hancher described the damage as ‘minor but mindless’.
He said: “It’s frustrating and annoying when a lot of people give up a lot of their time for free to provide facilities for the community to use such as the ECB All Stars programme on Friday night when we had more than 60 children, aged five to eight, and their parents enjoying an introduction to cricket.
“Being located in the park and a conservation area, we’re expected to maintain appearances but we need the authorities to support us – perhaps by providing more patrols and wider use of CCTV in this part of the town.”
Sgt Sarah Kent from Droitwich SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) said there were a few incidents of vandalism over the weekend, including some at the bowling club.
“We will be paying particular attention to those areas this weekend with extra patrols down there.
“We would also urge any members of the public to contact us as soon as possible if they see any suspicious activity or criminal damage taking place.
“Usually there will be someone in the area, such as dog walkers, and if they let us know we can send someone out.”
Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
