CYCLISTS have been warned to ensure their bikes are secure after a spate of thefts in Droitwich over the last few days.
In the one incident, two bicycles were stolen from a property in Clayhall Road between 4pm on Sunday and 8am on Monday.
One was a Trek and the other was a Raleigh road bike.
And in a similar incident around the same times, a shed in Home Piece was broken into and two bikes were also stolen. One was a white Carrera XFile in white and the other was a blue Apollo XC26.
Then between 7pm and 8pm on June 4 thieves targeted a house on The Holloway and stole a bike from it.
It had black wheels with white Whyte XC written in the rim, orange hubs, a white saddle, Whyte on the cross bar, disc brakes, quick release wheels and saddle and black plastic pedals.
Other readers got in touch via Facebook to say their bikes had also been stolen.
Insp Sarah Kent from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We have seen an increase in this type of crime because with the weather warming up more people are getting their bikes out.
“Bike thieves are opportunist and will go for easier targets.”
She advised cyclists to secure their bikes with a good quality lock to something solid when they are out and to leave them in public places rather than secluded ones.
And she said bikes should also be secured when people are at home.
“Don’t think just because your bike is in your garden the thieves won’t try to steal it.”
She added people should also ensure they know the make, model and serial numbers on their bikes and consider using property-marking equipment so if bikes are stolen and recovered they can be reunited with their owners.
Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
