History of the festival
The Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival started in 2013 and has grown rapidly to become one of the main events in the town.
This year it will be held in The Lido Park, Droitwich Spa on Saturday 17th June from 10am until
6pm.
This year we are pleased to welcome Brian Turner, one of Britain’s most well-known chefs and presenter of BBC’s ‘My Life On A Plate’ to open the event and doing a cookery demonstration.
Our Vision – is for the Droitwich Spa Festival to be regarded as one of the best festivals in the Midlands attracting people to the town, its facilities and attractions.
Droitwich Spa is a great place to stage and run such a festival as, going as far back as Saxon and Roman times, Droitwich has long been famous for the production of salt, used both for preserving food and enhancing the taste. It’s a perfect fit for the festival!
Lido Park Tennis
‘Leave a Lido Park Legacy’ is the campaign started by local mum Elaine Ball to get the tennis courts in the Lido Park resurfaced and made safe for everyone in the town to use.
Working with Wychavon District Council, the group is dedicated to providing a facility that is free of charge to use for those who want to play the sport without having to commit to joining a club, and in order to do this needs to raise £40,000 in order for the work to be completed. With help from the Council, and the support of the local
community, over £33000 of the money has been raised and the project is on track to be completed by early 2018, with the courts being laid as soon after this date as possible.
In addition, the group is already organising tennis sessions at the Park, providing free, or low cost sessions for
adults, children and families to make the most of the facility in the town
In order to raise the remaining money, we need the support of the people and business community of the town to sponsor a square of the courts in their own name, the name of their company, or on behalf of anyone else if they wish.
Once completed, a permanent weatherproof board will be erected next to the refurbished courts showing the names of all sponsors who have helped for years to come.
