Droitwich Colour Run hailed a great success after 500 took part

MORE than 500 participants took part in the Go Bright for Sight Colour Run in Droitwich last weekend.

The event, which saw runners, joggers and walkers spray-painted red, purple, green and blue, raised funds for Sight Concern Worcestershire.

It was held in the Lido Park on Saturday (June 24) and the paint stations were sponsored by AKW, Fortis Living, Nicol and Co, Modus, and Heart of Worcestershire College.

The cash raised will help support local blind and partially sighted people to overcome the daily challenges of living with sight loss, and to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Fiona Blake, the charity’s fund-raising manager, said: “We were thrilled with the turnout and wonderful atmosphere.

“Happy tunes were provided by DJ Alex Kear.”

She thanked everyone involved in the event, including Droitwich Athletics Club, the Young Firefighters, Droitwich Lions and Droitwich Rotary.

She also praised Julie Liggins Fitness for providing the Zumba warm up and Steve Sherry Personal Trainer and Physique Fitness who brought a team of 110.

Julie also did some blindfolded Pound demonstrations on the day and local physio Amber Griffiths gave post-event massage to weary limbs.

Coun Shaun Best, Mayor of Droitwich, attended the event and enjoyed setting off the pink colour fountain onto the crowd during the warm up.

He said: “This annual event is growing in popularity and I’m delighted that the Droitwich community has really taken it to their hearts.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part for really getting into the spirit of it.”

Sight Concern is hoping to beat last year’s total of £6,500 raised.
