A FAMOUS Droitwich landmark has been damaged by heartless vandals, leaving Wychavon District Council to pick up the repair costs just a month after renovations had been made.
Last Thursday evening the Wych Barge in Vines Park was targeted with damage sustained to lettering paintwork and the timber end board.
Lynn Stevens, Wychavon District Council’s senior parks and open spaces officer, said: “The barge was installed as part of the canal restoration back in 2011. “During the spring we did some repair work to bring it back up to standard, so to have it vandalised so soon after the repairs is really demoralising to our staff who work so hard to keep the parks looking good.
“We can always think of better things to spend our residents money on rather than repairing vandalism – it’s just completely thoughtless.”
Anyone with any information on the vandalism or any other damage being inflicted on parks equipment should report it to Wychavon on 01386 565018 or call the police on 101 if the vandalism is happening at the time.
Repairs to the Wych Barge will be undertaken as soon as possible.
