Fortis Living launches for diversity champions in Droitwich

Droitwich Editorial 3rd Aug, 2017   0

HOUSING association ‘Fortis Living’ is launching a new campaign in a bid to recruit members of the local community to become ‘champions of diversity’.

The ‘Fortis Fair Deal’ will encourage tenants to become active in the fight against discrimination.

Anyone wanting to find out about the scheme can go along to a special event between 1.30pm and 4pm next Friday, August 11, at Westlands First School where members of Fortis’ diversity team will be on hand to answer any questions regarding the campaign.

Tom Piotrowski, Fortis’ diversity and inclusion advisor, said: “Extending our Fortis Fair Deal programme into the community and recruiting passionate and committed diversity champions among our tenants will play a key role in promoting positive, inclusive and fair environments in the communities where we deliver our services.”

There is an existing internal diversity team which deals with issues such as LGBT, community and religion and this latest scheme follows on from that.

The aim is for these tenants to celebrate diversity and equality and develop ideas on how these could be achieved. It may include organising mutual support groups, projects around disabilities and coffee mornings focusing on autism, supported by the internal diversity champions with both funding and facilities.

The organisers are hoping the community will take over the scheme and make it their own.
