A FUN and friendly club has been set up for people living with Dementia and their families whilst long term plans are considered for the Droitwich Spa Meeting Centre.
The Meeting Centre Friends Together Club will include a three hour session at Droitwich Spa Rugby Club on Hanbury Road from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Hosted by a member of staff from Age UK (H&W), the three month service will be an opportunity for people to get together, chat, support each other, engage in an activity and have some fun whilst enjoying a cup of tea and cake.
The club has been created as a reduced service whilst options are explored to re-open the Droitwich Spa Meeting Centre.
The revolutionary service, which offers a specialised programme for up to 64 people living with Dementia, ran as part of a two-year pilot project funded by Alzheimer’s Society.
With funding coming to an end last week, a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) has been formed to source funding to keep the service running.
Coun Alan Humphries, Chair of Droitwich Meeting Centre CIO, said: “Having established this centre here in Worcestershire, the first of its kind in the UK, it would be a great shame if this important facility is lost to the town of Droitwich Spa.
“The Trustees of the CIO are currently working hard to secure funding to enable the Meeting Centre to continue at the Droitwich Spa Rugby Club.
“When it does re-open we anticipate that we will be asking members to make a contribution of £25 a day (to include lunch) if they attend for the full day or £12 for a morning or afternoon session (excluding lunch).”
The Meeting Centre Friends Together Club will cost £12 per session for current Meeting Centre members and their family member/carer (one payment to cover both) from September 17.
Taster sessions are free until that date.
