Young people give Droitwich West an autumn tidy

YOUNG PEOPLE from the Droitwich Action for Future Youth (DAFFY) took on the challenge of tackling litter in their local area.

The group, as part of a project led by Wychavon District Council, gave Droitwich West an autumn clean.

Sarah Page, DAFFY’s youth coordinator, said “The particular area we’re tackling is close to where some of the group meet, so they were really keen to get involved in taking up the challenge to keep it really clean.

“It’s great to see our young people out there dealing with the issue and we hope it’ll make people think twice about dropping litter in the first place.”

Wychavon already provides daily cleaning on the estate, but there is always more litter that needs tackling and this is a particularly challenging spot that is often difficult to access.

Coun Emma Stokes, portfolio holder for environment and contracted out services, said “It’s been great to get DAFFY involved with this project.

“While we make a lot of effort to keep our streets and public areas clean and tidy there are sadly always some hot spots that could do with a little extra support. “With community backing though it gives us all a much better chance of improving the situation and building more pride in the areas appearance.”

Wychavon provided all the equipment including grabbers, high visibility vests and bags and district councillors, including Coun George Duffy, joined in with the clean.

The youth group are planning to carry out litter picks more regularly.
