Oliver: Depleted Droitwich Spa aiming to 'avoid a thumping' at Barnt Green Spartak

JOINT-boss Wayne Oliver stated the target for heavily depleted Droitwich Spa at Barnt Green Spartak this weekend is to ‘avoid getting thumped’.

The Saltmen will be down to the bare bones for tomorrow’s (Saturday) Midland League Division Two clash against the Lions because of Adam Granger’s wedding.

Andrew Crowther, Mike Seeley, Matt Oliver and Joe Mayo-Braiden are all missing.

Fellow joint-boss Mark Owen will also take charge of the game as Oliver is also joining in with the wedding celebrations.

But with the return of striker James Lemon following his three-game suspension, Owen will not be forced to put the boots on for a third successive game.

“A lot of the under-18s will have to step up this weekend as we are down to the bare bones,” said Oliver.

“It is a really big patch-up job and the target is to make sure we don’t get thumped – that would be the best result.

“We want to be as competitive as possible and give Barnt Green a really good game.

“All we want to see is the players who have been asked to step-up is to make a mark for themselves.”

After the Spartak clash, Oliver is expecting to have a full strength squad in time for a run of three consecutive home games at Stourport Swifts’ Walshes Meadow.

The Saltmen play host to Alcester Town next Saturday in the Les James Challenge Cup, then face Northfield Town in the Presidents Cup on November 4 and high-flying Smithswood Firs in the league on November 11.
