STUDENTS from Westacre Middle School in Droitwich this morning (Friday) paid tribute to servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice during a special assembly.
The event, on the eve of Armistice Day and two days before Remembrance Sunday, showcased poems read by year seven pupils ‘from Flanders Field’, along with year five pupils who shared their experience of hearing war stories from residents of Dorset House care home earlier in the week.
After the assembly, everyone took part in a two-minute silence followed by the laying down of a collection of wreaths, created by each class.
Among the wreaths was one which had been customised, containing messages from the pupils for the care home residents which was presented to a Dorset House representative, Lisa.
The school community hopes to maintain its relationship with the local care home residents and is welcoming them to visit the school soon.
Headteacher Donna Evans will also be joined by head boy and girl Jack and Verity, in attending the Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Droitwich. There, a wreath will be laid made by the school.
