DROITWICH’S Westacre Middle School has been celebrating the opening of its new MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) with a week of activities, writes Lewis Gleeson.
The MUGA was designed following feedback from pupils and the Friends of Westacre (the PTA) and was officially opened by Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston.
Mr Huddleston met the school’s leadership team, the Friends, the pupil MPs and young sports leaders before cutting the ribbon and joining a year seven class for a basketball session on the new court.
He said: ‘’The children were rightly very enthusiastic about the amazing new facilities here.’’
Everyone was very excited to try out the new area and the week of activities on the new acrylic anti-slip all-weather pitch included house football competitions and a visit from the Worcester Wolves Basketball Club for year five and six coaching sessions.
Year four pupils from Wychbold First School also visited for a fun, multi-skills session organised by the school’s PE teacher Luke McMullen
Mr McMullen said he was thrilled with the new games area.
“It will help us to continue to deliver first class PE both in and out of the curriculum.’’
