MORE than 3,000 people turned out to enjoy a whole afternoon of festive entertainment on Saturday when Droitwich’s annual Christmas lights switch-on took place.
There was a funfair in Victoria Square and the Droitwich Lions’ popular Santa’s Grotto was open until the evening.
Other attractions included live music from the Salvation Army Brass Band and Sing and Tonic, a tabletop craft fayre at Droitwich Community Hall and free parking.
After the countdown, Finley Thomas Holliday, the grandson of the late Frank Holliday, pushed the plunger to illuminate the town.
Frank, who was known as the ‘father of Droitwich Spa Boys and Girls Football Club’, worked tirelessly for the organisation for 40 years before he passed away in June this year, aged 73.
Mayor Coun Shaun Best said: “I think that’s the largest amount of people we have had come down for the event for several years.
“The entertainment was fantastic and everybody had a fantastically festive time.”
A Christmas Market will officially open in Victoria Square at midday on December 16 and run from then until December 23.
