Witton Middle School students learn about becoming a police officer as part of cadet scheme

STUDENTS from Witton Middle School have been the first to learn about what it takes to become a police officer as part of a special cadet scheme.

Created with the aim of improving community relations between the police and young people, the Junior Cadet Scheme provided interactive lessons based on what the police do on a daily basis.

As the first school to be involved in the project, students improved their teamwork and communication skills through such topics as forensics, Internet safety, road safety and a short session on how police respond to public order situations (riots).

The course ended with the cadets participating in a passing out ceremony in their cadet uniforms where they each met Insp Gareth Morgan, the local policing inspector for Wychavon, and received certificates of achievement.

PCSO Aidan Goundry, said: “The children have really engaged with every activity we have done.

“The aim is for them all to have an interesting experience and to come away seeing the police in a positive light.

“We hope to be able to repeat this course in the near future with another group of students.”
