Spate of thefts from vehicles in Droitwich sparks police warning

Droitwich Editorial 6th Dec, 2017   0

DROITWICH drivers have been warned to be on their guard after a spate of thefts from vehicles in the town which the police believed are linked.

There were four in the space of a few hours, overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

In the first, an iPod Nano was taken after a Volkswagen Touran was broken into on Yew Tree Hill.

In another, the thieves broke into a white Mercedes Vito van in Pilgrim Road, stealing a number of tools, including a Dewalt combi impact driver set, a Makita Autofeed screwdriver, a 240v transformer and a Makita radio.

Access to a silver Volkswagen Passat was also gained between 11.59pm on Monday and 6am on Tuesday. On that occasion nothing had been taken but the the contents of the glove box were all strewn over the car where the raiders had searched.

And the thieves got into a Toyota Yaris in Valentine Close.

PC Richard Rees from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “A lot of the time when the thieves get in it is because car doors have been left unlocked, not deliberately, but because owners have forgotten to lock them.

“These thieves will literally try hundreds of car door handles every night and then when they do find vehicles unlocked will take whatever is inside.”

He urged motorists to make sure their vehicles were locked and all the valuables had been removed.

“We need to catch these thieves in the act so if anyone sees someone trying door handles they need to ring 999 straight away.”

Anyone with any other information on the thefts from vehicles should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
