Droitwich young people spend night under cardboard to highlight homeless plight and raise £1,000

YOUNG people from Droitwich spent a night under cardboard to highlight the plight of those having to sleep outside this winter.

The all-night experience helped the Droitwich Spa Boys’ Brigade and Girls Association understand the issues surrounding homelessness.

The participants, all aged 11 to 16, built their cardboard shelters and wrapped up warm to spend the night on the uncomfortable Droitwich concrete enclosure.

They had little sleep that night and have since learned to appreciate luxuries they previously took for granted, such as a roof over their head and a bed to sleep in.

Reuben Spence, 11, said: “It changes your idea of homelessness.

“It was one of the hardest things I’ve done, but one of the most moving experiences.”

Reuben presented an assembly to his school regarding this challenge, along with Stef who also took part in the sleepout.

The young people were sponsored for the sleep out and raised around £1,000 for St Paul’s Homeless Hostel in Worcester.
