A Christmas and new year message from Droitwich Mayor, Coun Shaun Best

Droitwich Editorial 24th Dec, 2017   0

OUT OF most adversities comes relief and occasionally pride.

The relief of now being able to walk and drive down a revamped High Street, where people in wheelchairs don’t become sea-sick in the first ten yards and cars don’t ruin their suspension, and the pride of a Mayor who saw a lot of residents of this town enjoying themselves in the festival season, and with the help of people from surrounding areas pull together to find a missing Red Setter called Hector.

You see what happens when townsfolk work together.

This has been a challenging year so far for all of us in the town offices. Fencing off the ‘comments’ of the High Street, attempting to sort out most asked questions like salt, Brine Baths and The Raven Hotel, to the success of events like John Corbett’s 200th Anniversary, the food and drink festival, where Droitwich Salted Fudge and butter were launched, the arts festival and the youth festival, Handel’s Water Music and not forgetting the launch of Droitwich Salt and Saltfest and the Bands in the Park which is becoming more popular each year. The one fact about having had a busy and successful festival period is that in the following years it can go one of two ways. Let us make sure in this town it is not downwards.

Of the events that didn’t quite go according to plan who will forget Remembrance Sunday and the PA system. Because of being an organist it was actually the first one I’ve seen for many years and there were a lot of people there and a lot of wreaths laid.

Though the weather was at times inclement, at least we were to within ten seconds of 11am for the chimes and Last Post.

The Christmas lights switch on went off without any really noticeable hitches, all thanks to Mark Keld and the gang, and the contractors got the high street finished.

And so we are left with Christmas, where all humanity lives in harmony! Yeah right.

We at Droitwich Town Council wish you all a merry Christmas, and from me think positive and it will happen.

Happy new year all.
