Drivers warned to watch their speed as police undertake checks on the town's roads

Droitwich Editorial 17th Jan, 2018   0

DROITWICH drivers have been warned to watch their speed by the local police safer neighbourhood team (SNT) which has been carrying out checks in the area.

Officers have been out in the mobile unit in a bid to catch drivers who blatantly flout the law.

And motorists have been warned that, unlike when they are caught with a fixed camera, officers will also be checking vehicles for other misdemeanours, such as whether cars and vans have insurance, MoTs and road tax.

The conditions of vehicles will also be examined to ensure they are in a roadworthy state and drug and drink-driving tests will be carried out at the roadside.

A Droitwich SNT spokesperson said: “Drivers need to keep to the speed limit, especially in the wintry conditions we have been having lately.

“We want to ensure the area is as safe for motorists as it possibly can be.”

The force has also urged any residents who are concerned about speeding in their area to get in touch with Droitwich SNT and officers will consider taking out the mobile speed enforcement units to check drivers are keeping to the limits.

Anyone who thinks speed is an issue in their area can call Droitwich Police on 101.
