Plans for new Lidl store to come to Droitwich, bringing 40 new jobs

A NEW Lidl supermarket could be coming to Droitwich Spa, bringing 40 new jobs.

A planning application has been submitted by the discount supermarket for a new store on George Baylis Road and the existing buildings, Acorn Catering Equipment, to be demolished.

The 1,325sqm sales area will create up to 40 new jobs and will include an in-store bakery, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Droitwich Town Council gave the proposals the thumbs up during a planning meeting on Monday (January 15) and the authority’s recommendation for approval will be passed on for when it goes before Wychavon District Council planners.

Jeremy Lee, Regional Head of Property, confirmed the application and said: “We are delighted to announce we have submitted a planning application with Wychavon District Council.

“If granted this would mark a multi-million pound investment in the area, and the creation of new jobs when the store opens.

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support and feedback so far and look forward to receiving the decision in due course.”
