Droitwich Spa must be 'up for the cup', warns joint-boss Oliver

JOINT-BOSS Wayne Oliver has issued a rallying cry to Droitwich Spa to be ‘up for the cup’ this weekend or see their last chance of securing silverware brought to an end.

Weather permitting, the Saltmen make the trip to fellow Midland League Division Two side Feckenham tomorrow (Saturday) in the semi-finals of the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup.

The two sides have played each other twice in the league already, with Spa and the Millers having a win each to their name. And Oliver is expecting another tough battle, especially with a cup final place up for grabs.

“Feckenham beat us 1-0 at our place but we returned the compliment by beating them 4-2 at their own home,” he said.

“They are a very good footballing side filled with young and energetic players and I think the winner will be the team which shows they want the cup final spot more.

“It is important to go over there fully prepared to do battle.”

Having been dumped out of the Les James Challenge Cup, Presidents Cup and Polymac Packaging League Cup all on penalties, Oliver added he did not fancy going to spot-kicks once again.

Spa and Feckenham had their respective league games against Bloxwich Town on Montpellier called off last Saturday so both sides will be rusty for their cup clash.

With county cup ties taking precedence over league games, if tomorrow’s match is postponed it would have to be rearranged for the following weekend which would then start to cause a fixture backlog.

That’s a scenario that worries the Spa joint-boss.

“If we are not careful we could have some major catching up to do,” he said.

“However, I am sure the ground staff at Feckenham will do their best because they want the game on just as much as we do.”
