THE ICE AGE is being brought to life at a new exhibition at Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre.

The pop-up ‘Lost Landscapes of Worcestershire’ display, which got under way yesterday and runs until March 17, will showcase stunning and surprising Ice Age finds with a county connection, some c.500,000 years old.

It has been created by the Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service and Museums Worcestershire which are leading the exciting project, thanks to grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, the West Midlands Museum Development Fund, and the Council for British Archaeology West Midlands.

This display is one of many events and exhibitions celebrating over half a million years of the area’s prehistory, from the time our ancestors first arrived in the Midlands through to the end of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago.

Visitors will be able to see early tools, such as flint axes made more than 300,000 years ago by early age man and see remains of extraordinary Ice Age creatures such as Woolly Mammoth, Moa, Bison and Hyena.

On February 23, during half-term week, there will be a themed activity day.

People will be able to become an archaeologist for the day, digging for objects in sandpits and identifying animal bones.

They will also get the chance to follow the Woolly Mammoth Footprint Trail, craft activities and more.

This event, run with Rob Hedge from Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, will take place in the Heritage Centre from 10am to 3pm each day.

Entrance to the event is £2 per person.
