Work starts to resurface the tennis courts at Droitwich's Lido Park

THE GATES have been closed at the municipal tennis courts in Droitwich’s Lido Park so the revamp can get into full swing.

The £40,000 fund-raising target to resurface the courts was reached last August after a campaign which began almost two years ago.

The drive was launched by mum Elaine Ball and backed by The Standard.

Elaine took action after noticing the courts were in a dangerous state of disrepair. She and fellow fund-raiser Neil Bates wanted to provide the the best free courts possible for those who could either not afford or did not want to commit to joining a club but still wanted to play tennis.

Wychavon District Council initially agreed to match-fund a £20,000 total but then added another £10,000 to the drive.

The work, which will take a couple of months to complete, will see three new full sized tennis courts alongside four bespoke sized junior courts be available for everyone to use.

Elaine said “This is absolutely fantastic and, after all of the hard work that has been put in by so many people, to see the work actually start is simply amazing.”
