Free training session for Droitwich residents to become health walk leaders

Droitwich Editorial 9th Feb, 2018   0

DROITWICH residents are being urged to take up free training to become health walk leaders.

Health walks are free short weekly strolls of 30 minutes or an hour organised by Wychavon District Council and a new one is planned for the Westlands.

They are aimed at encouraging people who are inactive but are open to everyone.

The next walker leader training session will be at Westlands Community Hall from 9.45am to 3pm on Tuesday, February 13, where everyone will receive follow-up support, a training manual and a certificate. Booking is essential.

Coun Gerry O’Donnell, Wychavon’s portfolio holder for community development, culture and sport, said the walks had grown in popularity and more leaders were needed to meet the demand.

“It’s great to see more people getting out walking every week, socialising and keeping active.”

He added walking was good for cardiac health and preventing many other conditions.

Call Lynn Yendell, Health Walks Officer, on 01905 766155 (Monday to Wednesday) or e-mail [email protected] for more.
