Banana themed Fairtrade Coffee Morning to be held in Droitwich today

Droitwich Editorial 10th Mar, 2018   0

A BANANA-themed coffee morning will be held on today as part of a nationwide campaign to call attention to the plight of famers and workers in developing countries.

Droitwich Fairtrade Group is one of many groups up and down the country organising events as part of the Fairtrade Foundation’s campaign for fairer treatment for producers.

Anyone is welcome to attend the coffee morning, which will be held from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Droitwich Methodist Church on the Worcester Road, and will offer tea, coffee and refreshments for a suggested donation of £2.

Emily Bowsher, secretary for Droitwich Fairtrade Group, said, “We hope that this coffee morning will be an opportunity for people to show their support for Fairtrade, and to find out about the many local opportunities to buy Fairtrade products.”

A range of Fairtrade food, gifts and jewellery will be available to buy at the coffee morning. Members of the Droitwich Fairtrade Group will be available if anyone would like to know more about the group’s activities or Fairtrade locally. And every attendee is given a Fairtrade banana!

The event is part of Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until tomorrow to challenge the British public to open their doors to Fairtrade and help close the door on the exploitation facing the people who produce the things we love to eat, drink, and wear.

Adam Gardner, Communities Campaigns Manager at the Fairtrade Foundation said: “It’s a scandalous reality that millions of farmers and workers are being ripped off despite working hard to provide the products we love. Unfairness in global trade is rooted in centuries of exploitation. Yet across the globe, millions of hard-working producers are unravelling this legacy. They’re fighting for a fair deal, supported by Fairtrade, earning their way out of poverty and transforming their communities”.
