RESIDENTS wanting to tread the boards at Droitwich’s Norbury Theatre can go along to the auditions for ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’ at 7.30pm tonight or Thursday.

The play centres around Bernard who is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, whilst his wife Jaqueline is away.

He has arranged for a Cordon Bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend Robert along too, to provide the alibi. It’s fool proof! What could possibly go wrong?

Well…. suppose Robert turns up not realising quite why he has been invited.

Suppose Robert and Jaqueline are secret lovers, and consequently determined that Jaqueline will not leave for the weekend. Suppose the cook has to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress is unable to cook.

Suppose everyone’s alibi gets confused with everyone else’s. An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

The cast requires three men and three women, all aged between 30 and 50.

Bernard, Jaqueline (his wife), Robert (his friend), Suzanne (Bernard’s mistress), Suzette (the cook), George (her husband. tall, heavy build. Appears in Act 2 only).

It will be directed by Jenni Sinclair and Brian Hooper will be the stage manager.

A spokesperson for the Norbury Theatre said everyone was welcome to the try-outs which start at 7.30pm at the Friar Street venue.

Performances will be from September 6 to 8 and between September 13 and 15 and rehearsals will be Tuesday, May 15, Thursday, May 24, then every Tuesday or Thursday until the production.

“This is a classic comedy farce about double adultery and mistaken identity.

“The essential factors needed to achieve this farcical comedy are strong characters and pace.

“This requires the dialogue to be learnt quickly so that the cuebite and, ‘business’ needed to get the essential pace can be the major part of rehearsal time.”

Participants do not have to be a member of the Norbury Theatre to audition but, if cast, you will need to become a member by completing an application form and paying the necessary fee by the first rehearsal.
