More than 100 youngsters sign up for All Stars Cricket scheme at Droitwich Spa

THERE has been an impressive century already achieved at Droitwich Spa Cricket Club.

Spa has topped the 100-mark with its intake for this summer’s All Stars Cricket – the ECB scheme aimed at providing children aged five to eight with a great first experience in the sport.

It is currently the second highest figure for the whole of the UK and follows last year’s successful launch when 72 children took part at the St Peter’s Fields club.

A total of 101 youngsters are now signed up for the fun sessions, which start next month and run for eight weeks.

“All Stars was a great success last year so much so that 30 children stayed on for the rest of the summer to attend our regular junior training sessions,” said Mike Wallis, head of junior cricket as Droitwich Spa.

“We’re now hoping that the weather stays fair so that we can deliver another fun programme and attract even more young cricketers to the sport and our club at a time when we’re developing some exciting plans for the future.”

The season may be underway but it’s not too late for cricketers from the age of seven upwards to join the Spa ranks.

Senior players are still being sought for the club’s four Saturday teams and youngsters are welcome to join any of its 13 boys and girls’ sides.
