A COUPLE celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary on Wednesday at the Westmead Residential Care Home in Drotiwich.

Harry, aged 102 and Margaret Tanfield, aged 93, celebrated 70 years of marriage with a special tea party, surrounded by family and close friends at the care home where they both live.

It was love at first sight for the pair who met by chance at a dance hall in Birmingham.

Harry’s cricket match had fortunately finished early that evening, meaning he had time to stop by the dance hall – catching Margaret’s eye.

Margaret was just 21 at the time and was working in Timpsons.

The couple married on June 27 1948 and after the ceremony went on honeymoon to the Isle of White.

Harry said: “I remember that the weather was fantastic whilst we were away because we were able to swim everyday.”

Later on in life the lovebirds had two children, called Penny and Guy.

The Tanfield family-of-four has now blossomed to four generations, including six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The great-grandchildren are all between six-months and 21 years old.

Until recently, the pair lived independently with Harry being Margaret’s full-time carer.

Care home manager Michelle Bisseker said: “Harry and Margaret are a true example of devotion and we are so honoured to have been able to celebrate this special day with them and their family.”
