AN online estate agent has put together a list of 30 jobs, based on its average salary, that will ‘require 100 years or longer to save for a house deposit’.
The research, put together by House Simple, compared low income salaries to the average price of a UK home (which currently sits at £226,351).
Calculations were based on savers putting aside 10 per cent of their net salary every year for the deposit.
Bar staff will need a stiff drink after they discover it will take them almost 130 years to save for a deposit on the average-priced UK house.
According to the research, Hairdressers and barbers ‘wouldn’t be able to afford a property until the year 2143’.
For example, a cook would need to toil away in the kitchens for 113 years to have enough money.
Sam Mitchell, CEO of Housesimple.com said: “Although house price growth has slowed down, affordability still remains a major problem in many parts of the UK.
“Clearly, no-one is going to be saving for 100 years to buy a property, but these figures provide a stark picture of the struggle many buyers working in low paying, but essential jobs, face when it comes to buying a home.”
