THE BLUE Cross is offering free talks to Bromsgrove, Rubery and Droitwich schools and youth groups to teach children about pet welfare in a bid to end neglect and animal cruelty.
The talks aim to encourage responsible pet ownership by focusing on the Five Welfare Needs which include suitable diet, environment, enrichment and companionship.
The campaign is being backed by TV ‘Watch’ personality Chris Packham, who is an ambassador for the charity.
Kerry Taylor, The Blue Cross’ education manager, said: “Sadly, pets suffer if their owners don’t know about the five welfare needs and ensure they meet these for their individual pet.
For example, poor housing and the wrong diet for small animals like rabbits and hamsters can have devastating consequences.”
