AN inspirational Droitwich woman who beat leukaemia after a five-year battle is getting ready to cycle 342 miles for charity.
Brooke Evans, 23, will cycle 42-miles in the Velo Birmingham and Midlands race on May 12.
She will follow it up with Cure Leukaemia’s 300-mile trip from London to Paris in September.
Brooke was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when she was a teenager and began receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
Thanks to a clinical drugs trial funded by Cure Leukaemia, Brooke went into remission and was able to return to the University of Worcester to study medicine.
Brooke, who is now a haematology nurse, said: “I am so excited to be taking part in these events.
“Cure Leukaemia is a charity that means so much to me and I can’t wait to raise much-needed funds and awareness during 2019.”
Brooke decided to give cycling a go after seeing two fellow leukaemia patients, Jenna Ostrowski and Mark Nicholas, complete London to Paris in 2018.
The only problem was, she did not have a bike.
Seeing her struggles, Ribble Cycles, which sponsors the Velo race, stepped in and generously donated a brand new hand-built endurance road bike for Brooke to train with before and during the events.
“I am truly amazed at how generous Ribble Cyles have been and I can’t wait to get started,” added Brooke.
