STAFF and students at Droitwich’s Chawson First School have been celebrating after maintaining their ‘good’ rating following an Ofsted inspection and a thumbs up from the parents, writes Henri Bujard.

In her report, Ofsted inspector Sarah Somers praised the school’s effective teaching and said the pupils’ learning took place in a friendly, happy and supportive environment.

The 65 responses to Ofsted’s questionnaire, Parent View, showed an overall positive outlook from parents on how their children progressed at the school.

One parent echoed the views of many when she said: “Chawson is a fabulous learning environment, the staff are amazing at what they do.

“I couldn’t think of a better school.”

The school’s safeguarding policy has also been praised as strong and effective, meanwhile staff’s approach to pastoral care and the way in which they deal with bullying has resulted in pupils feeling safe at school.

The varied indoor and outdoor activities organised by teachers encourage children to talk, role-play and experiment with various practical resources to improve their language and mathematics.

The next steps for the school, as highlighted in the Ofsted report, include ensuring early years and disadvantaged pupils make strong progress so they can catch up with the curriculum.
