GARDEN lovers are in for a real treat this weekend with three beautiful examples to visit.

Today, August 3, discover the hidden and previously forgotten garden of Worcester’s wartime horticultural college.

Now being restored and opened to the public after 30 years it’s at Oakfield House, Droitwich Road, Worcester WR3 7ST.

Billed as the county’s answer to ‘Heligan’ – this lost garden is being brought back to life.

For 35 years after World War 2 the site was known as Oakfield Teacher Training College for Horticulture (OTTC-H).

Such was its reputation that visitors came from 58 different countries and at least eight other horticultural colleges were founded by people inspired by OTTC-H.

It’s all in aid of the National Garden Scheme, is open from 10.30am to 3.30pm, and entry is £5 for adults, children free. No dogs allowed.

On Sunday, August 4 can take in ‘Hiraeth’ at 30, Showell Road, Droitwich, WR9 8UY which is open from 2pm to 5pm.

Featuring a 300 year old olive tree and ‘an oasis of colour’, entry is £3.50, children free.

Open on both today and Sunday from 11am to 5pm is ‘Offenham Gardens’ – six homes on Main Street, Offenham, WR11 8QD

Offering everything from Herdwick sheep and pygmy goats to ponds with waterfalls, these gardens have something for everyone.

Entry for all six is £5.
