DROITWICH Spa A go into the final match of their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division One campaign looking to bounce back from a narrow 8-6 loss to Worcester B last weekend.

Spa go into their trip to Stourbridge on Sunday knowing six points will be enough to finish in fifth place ahead of Bromsgrove A, who currently sit on 42 points.

The duo of Lee Cowan and Matthew Baker started brightly for Droitwich last week by winning the opening set, but eventually lost 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 against Tom Welsh and Paul Bennett, while Benedict Buckley and Mark Jones went down 2-6, 3-6 to Ben Tolhurst and Richard Ashley-Smith.

James Douglas-Osborn and James Nam brought Spa back in contention with their 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory in match three, while Baker and Cowan followed up with a three-set win against Tolhurst and Ashley-Smith 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Droitwich then won their third match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, courtesy of Jones and Buckley, though Douglas-Osborn and James Nam’s 1-6, 4-6 defeat to Bennett and Welsh ultimately made the difference.

Meanwhile, David Lloyd Bromsgrove A’s 14-0 drubbing by Worcester B in midweek confirmed their relegation to Division Two.

Henry Myatt and Liam Hadfield won the first set but went down to a 7-6, 3-6, 4-6 defeat to Bennett and Welsh, in the opening game but DL Bromsgrove were only able to win one further set that evening.
