HALFORDS Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish is targetting further success at Knockhill, after winning the final race at Thruxton and claiming further podium places.
A win in race three by 1.974 seconds followed up on a second place in race one and third in qualifying, continuing his fine recent form after twice finishing runner-up at Snetterton last time out.
Cammish said it was his best showing of the season and admits he always felt confident of success going into race three.
“It was my best weekend this year – first, second and fifth,” he said.
“Once the weight came out for race three I knew we had a good chance.
“I drove a sensible race, didn’t take too much out of the tyre in the opening laps.
“It was difficult with the rain at the end, but the team kept me cool and calm and we took the win.
He now hopes to take plenty of momentum into round eight of the British Touring Car Championship, and said: “I was on pole at Knockhill last year – I’ll go there with the car much heavier than ever before but that won’t stop me giving it a good go.”
Teammate Matt Neal, meanwhile, secured two third-place finishes in the final two races to further enhance the team’s representation on the Hampshire podium.
In qualifying, Cammish displayed the first signs of a promising weekend of racing ahead with a fastest lap of 1:15.949 to finish third, less than one hundredth of a second behind pole position, while Neal raced to a disappointing 17th place.
Cammish quickly built on the result by finishing second in the opening race, keeping within touching distance of leader Sam Tordoff throughout, in what was his eighth podium appearance of the season.
With the success ballast weighing down Cammish in race two, he only managed a fifth-placed finish, with Neal coming to the fore to secure his first podium of the weekend.
Going into the final corner in fourth, Neal overtook rival Tom Oliphant at the last to secure third by the finest of margins.
Race three brought better fortunes for Cammish as he again challenged for top spot, despite rainfall coming into play mid-race.
He used his slick tyres on his car to his advantage, racing into the lead to win by 1.974 seconds, while Neal finished 4.67 seconds behind in third.
Neal said it was perfect weekend for the team, and also shares Cammish’s confidence ahead of the next round.
“We have had a great day, especially considering how we started after our performance in qualifying – I’m very relieved,” he said.
“I didn’t get a win but the next best thing – four podiums for us as a team, our best weekend of the year so far.
“Knockhill is a circuit that favours some of our rivals but we’ll go there in confident mood and see what we can do.”
