Bromsgrove and Droitwich Scouts hold their St George's Day activities online

SCOUTS in Bromsgrove and Droitwich could not pass up the chance to celebrate the movement’s patron saint so moved the host of St George’s Day activities online.

Normally the annual parade – scheduled this year for April 26 – is one of the biggest events in the Scouts Bromsgrove calendar and the district team of leaders worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to find a solution.

A flag parade, renewal of Scout promises and adult awards all took place via video link while Rev Ray Khan, who usually leads the service at St John’s Church, said a prayer on screen and gave a special thank you to key workers.

More than 400 people took part in the digital celebrations which were streamed live on social media.

Viv Ware, Scouts Bromsgrove District Commissioner, said: “We are very proud of Scouting in Bromsgrove and it was important for us to still be together to celebrate St George’s Day.

“Our leaders, and young people have really stepped up to challenge and embraced the changes we have had to make during this time, every one is enjoying the challenge.”

In the coming weeks the group has other activities planned to keep scouting alive, including a virtual campfire and an online Bear Hunt camping weekend.
