A LARGE cannabis farm has been found by police on a Droitwich industrial estate where a massive fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The blaze – an electrical fire thought to have been started by the growing equipment housed in specially designed tents in the building – began at 5am on the Rushock Trading Estate.

It took fire crews, three from Droitwich and two from Wyre Forest, several hours to extinguish the flames and residents were warned to keep their doors and windows shut because of the smoke.

Sgt Andy Wright from West Mercia Police said: “Thankfully these drugs never made it onto the streets and the plants and the growing equipment that survived the fire will now been destroyed.

“West Mercia Police is dedicated to tackling drug supply in the community and we will not tolerate drug dealing nor will we allow properties to be used for the production of cannabis.”

He urged anyone who has seen suspicious activity around the Rushock Trading Estate over the past few months to call police on 101 so the criminals could be brought to justice.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
