'I'm fed up of picking up drug paraphernalia' says boss of Droitwich Playing Fields

THE chairman of the organisation which runs Droitwich’s King George V Playing Fields says he is fed up with picking up drug paraphernalia and empty beer bottles.

Richard Whittall is worried that the area is becoming a breeding ground for anti-social behaviour, especially among youngsters.

He said: “Not a day goes by without finding silver gas canisters, bottles or drug packets. That’s how bad the littering is.”

“A few weeks ago two or three lads tried to break into the pavilion by going through the back door.

“I phoned the leisure centre manager but the perpetrators had legged it by the time we got down there.”

Mr Whittall added that ‘none of them looked over 18’.

Last year, vandalism on the playing fields had left the community constantly footing the bill for repairs.

PC Richard Rees from Droitwich Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team said patrols were carried out at the fields but because of their isolated location and so many ways in and out, it was a difficult area to police.
