DROITWICH’S Special Olympian Jamie Dancyger smashed his Virtual London Marathon in three hours and 26 minutes, raising more than £500 for Mencap.

The 35-year-old was taunted by students during PE lessons for the way that he ran but proved the bullies wrong by becoming a Special Olympic medal-winning runner.

During his time with the Special Olympics, Jamie represented his club and region in the 800m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m races.

He also represented the Special Olympics GB at the World Games in Athens in 2011, where he picked up two silver medals.

Jamie has wanted to run the London Marathon for a long time after being inspired by those who took part.

After Sunday’s run around Droitwich and Worcester he said: “I feel great – I’m really, really proud of myself. I’m doing it again next year in London.”

He celebrated his achievement with a bath and eating Sunday dinner with his mum who also cycled the entire 26.2 mile route with him.
