DROITWICH Amateur Boxing Club is reminding people that ‘Box Positive’ sessions for people suffering with Parkinson’s Disease are still running virtually.
Headcoach Charles Delve believes its the only boxing Zoom sessions for people with Parkinson’s in the UK.
People from more than 100 miles away have been getting in touch with Charles to take part.
The idea is to help people who are suffering with the disease in hope of ‘reversing’ its affects.
“With Parkinson’s you immediately think of the physical side of the disease, but our boxing sessions also help with boosting mental health.
“It gives people a fighting mentality which is a positive approach to tackling their symptoms.
“They might come in feeling down, but by the end of the session they are feeling happy and energised.”
The Zoom sessions help people with their footwork and multi-tasking, as well as their general boxing ability.
It boosts their cognition and teaches them different techniques and movements.
“In some of the sessions we have an imaginary opponent, sometimes they’re over 7ft, and we all work together to beat this person,” said Charles.
“Working together helps counteract Parkinson’s, one person even told me our sessions have put his condition in reverse.”
Currently the sessions, which cost £5, go live every Tuesday and Saturday at 10am but Charles is looking to add more days soon.
In the future Charles would like to teach Box Positive at schools and in other gyms around the country.
