CAMPAIGNERS in Droitwich are celebrating after Wychavon’s planning committee threw out a controversial application for a two-storey detached house on a busy junction.
We reported a fortnight ago about the proposal for the building in Spa Road where it meets Blackfriars Avenue.
Residents and councillors had contacted the Standard, saying the increased on-street parking and height of the building would make it even more dangerous because of a further reduction in visibility for drivers already hampered by a large fence.
They appealed to Wychavon planners to throw out an application and now say ‘common sense had prevailed’.
Droitwich Town Council also voiced opposition to the proposal, including that the design property was not in-keeping with the area.
One resident said: “Everybody was so relieved when it was turned down – it shows what can be achieved when you speak up about something you feel isn’t right.
“When the Highways changed its recommendation after speaking to the developers we feared the worst but thankfully the planning committee saw it for what it was.
“It was a fantastic result.”
Coun John Hartley, who spoke at the meeting, also welcomed the decision and echoed the residents’ sentiments about ‘common sense prevailing’.
He said: “It was the right result .”
