A TENACIOUS team from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service endured intense heat when they took on a gruelling Brecon Beacons trek to continue the fund-raising legacy of former colleague Stu Crebbin.
The firefighters completed the third Stu’s Phoenix Challenge on Saturday and Sunday.
Stu passed away in March last year at the age of 46 after a 12-month battle with cancer.
In 2020, Stu and his Phoenix Challenge team undertook the Brecon Beacons 10 peaks Traverse (East to West). Despite him having to undertake intense chemotherapy and other treatments in the lead up to the great feat, he completed most of the challenge.
Last year, Hereford Firefighter Spencer Jones and 32 HWFRS colleagues trekked the 10 peaks the opposite way.
This was followed up with last week’s great accomplishment in which this year’s Phoenix Team succeeded in conquering the 10 peaks and Pen y Fan. Both events raised large amounts of cash in the memory of Stu and in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.
The organiser of the event: Spencer Jones said: “It was hard going, but with lots of laughter and positivity, the event was yet again great fun and a huge success.”
The current figure for the challenges is more than £20,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity – not only does it deliver vital support for fire services but it was also very close to Stu’s heart as it supported him and his family through his last weeks.

Spencer added the team would be back next year to take on another big challenge.
