JAMES Lemon’s double proved in vain as Droitwich Spa slipped to a 3-2 defeat at home to promotion contenders Bilston Town.
All five goals were scored in a remarkable first half as Lemon’s brace put Spa ahead only for Bilston to fight back and secure the points at the King George Playing Fields.
The result means Droitwich now sit fourth in the Midland Football League Division One table after their three-game winning run came to an end.
Bilston took an early lead through Andre Edwards as the ball was played across the box to the striker who applied a simple finish from 10-yards out.
However, Droitwich drew level through captain Lemon’s deflected strike before the same player edged Spa into the lead with a tap in at the back post.
The visitors equalised when Ethan Pearce found the corner of an empty net after he was played in behind the Droitwich defence and beat Spa goalkeeper Matt Oliver to the loose ball.
And Bilston completed their own comeback when Dan Westwood chipped Oliver from distance after the keeper raced out of his goal and did well to prevent the initial break.
Droitwich are next in action away at OJM Black Country on Saturday, September 10 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Town’s Sports Ground.
