THOUSANDS of people from Worcestershire helped raise over £2,000 at the Droitwich Spa Fire Stations’ open day last Saturday (September 24).

The amount raised will help the Fire Fighters Charity, the Cadets and local food banks.

John Buley, Crew Commander and one of the organisers for the event, said: “The turnout has been a little bit more than expected, but it has been really good, everyone was having fun, and the weather was on our side.

“It has been a while since we have done something like this, and I think everyone was looking forward to it.”

The event was so well received three trips had to be made for extra BBQ supplies, and the fire engine underwent 350 rides.

It was the station’s first event in the past four years due to Covid.

Live demonstrations, apparatus experiences, show and tell sessions, fire engine rides, and first aid training by the Droitwich Community First Responders were a few of the activities at the event.

Open days like these are important to the emergency services to help convey their message of safety and enable people to see what they do while everyone is having fun.

The number of donations is subject to rise as the amount raised by the air ambulance is unknown due to them taking collections separately.
