'Sir John Adams' prepared to go the distance for next fund-raiser

Droitwich Editorial 3rd Nov, 2022   0

DROITWICH MND warrior John Adams and his newly dressed scooter will be travelling seven miles in seven days to raise cash for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

John and his chariot will start at Droitwich Rugby Club this Saturday, then travel to seven of the town’s pubs on Sunday, completing laps around Vines Park on Wednesday and finishing on the West Bromwich Albion Football Club next Saturday, November 12m where he will lead out his beloved Baggies against Stoke City.

He said: “It is going to cost me a fortune keeping my scooter charged up.”

John, diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease six years ago, lost the use of his legs, receives food and fluid through a peg in his stomach and speaks through a machine.

He added: “I just hope it will help towards finding a cure. I know it’s too late for me, but I would love to think, in the future, no other families have to suffer from this horrendous disease.”

John got the idea for his new fund-raising venture from one of his idols Kevin Sinfield, who is set to take on seven ultra-marathons in seven days. Family, friends, and community have banded together to help him complete the challenge.

One person, Dave Nolan, even decided to hand-make the mighty chariot in which ‘Sir John’ will be travelling in.

Since starting up his Just Giving page, John has succeeded in his target of £500, raising a staggering £17,000 so far.

John added: “My family have been amazing, however, they did stop me from doing a skydive which I am not very happy about. I feel quite a celebrity when I go out in Droitwich now. People wave at me – I love my town.”
