Police offer advice on stopping burglars entering homes via windows

Droitwich Editorial 10th Jul, 2023   0

POLICE are offering advice on deterring burglars from entering people’s homes via open or insecure windows.

Open windows can offer burglars easier access than doors so police are stressing the importance of ensuring householders do not give burglars with ways of entry.

Officers say people should be aware of whether walls, bins or garden furniture could be used to access high windows.

For windows within reaching distance, they suggest installing laminated glass or security film.

Installing sash windows on ground floors which only open partially can prevent any would-be thief from climbing through to gain access.

Key operated locks are also recommended for windows that open outwards, rather than up and any ground floor or accessible windows.

And they say window locks are only effective when used, urging everyone to check window locks before leaving their homes – and to use them.

Window opening restrictors allow homeowners to ventilate their home without being able to be picked or unlocked from outside.

People should also not leave ladders lying in their garden.
